A nice crag in Central District of SNP.
Possible to top rope, trad or free solo.

If top roping make sure to bring plenty of webbing and/or static cord d/t anchors being a toss up.

For a GREAT resource on climbing this great piece of rock PATC has issued a free online guide

Getting There [Suggest Change]

Located around Mile Post 39...easiest to enter SNP from Thorton Gap entrance and drive south.
Then hike south on the A.T for about 0.5 mile and you'll reach cliff area.

As of yesterday (11/14/12), the NPS is planning to restrict access to Little Stoney Man for climbing!! Contact the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club for details, and get involved if you care about climbing here! Nov 15, 2012

Looks like most of Little Stoney Man is now closed, but it's not clear from the diagrams exactly which routes may be open still...

Fortunately, most of the climbing is still open at LSM. It's possible NOC Area and perhaps Dragon Area are affected by the recent changes, but I haven't been there recently to check (my understanding is there's some signage?). The northern boulder areas has been closed for quite some time. I believe there was mention to harden the Chute Trail in the final Rock Outcrop Management Plan that was published. Perhaps things will change after that happens. Jun 22, 2015
The PMC guide states that "Due to the problems of erecting top-rope anchors, permanent fixed TR/rappel anchors will be installed at various points on the cliff face. The PMC will be participating in this project."

"...fixed TR/rappel anchors will be installed at LSM, but is unclear
when this will actually occur." (potomacmountainclub.org/res…)

Were any of those anchors installed? If so, at the tops of which routes? Jun 11, 2018
