Description Suggest change

McClellan Mountain is an oft-overlooked 13-er just east of the very popular Gray's & Torrey's parking lot.

From this side, the West Face of McClellan rises from 1500 feet in craggy escarpments split by couloirs and gully systems.

Ice seems to form quite regularly in the lower reaches of these gully systems, with mellow alpine climbing above. In a good snow year, there might be lots of potential for varied alpine routes in an easy-access location.

Getting There Suggest change

Approach as you would for Grays & Torreys. In winter, generally the road from Bakerville off I-70 is not passable by car, so walk, snowshoe, or ski up the road for about 2 miles to the obvious parking lot. McClellan's west face rises sharply and obviously to the east.
