Thunder Bay Region Ice and Mixed

International > N America > Canada > Ontario

Description

The Thunder Bay region hosts many long-standing classic ice, mixed, and rock routes, as well as a lot of new development, mostly in the rock climbing arena. Most Thunder Bay's ice and mixed climbing is concentrated on steep faces of Mount McKay and Mount McRae. The impressive ice lines on the northwestern face of Mount McRae are easily visible from Provincial Route 61 just south of Thunder Bay.

Getting There

From Duluth, MN, take MN-61N for 148 miles to border crossing. After crossing the border MN-61 N becomes Provincial Route 61 N. Thunder Bay is 35 miles north.
