Access Issue: MM 23-29.5 - now ended daily CO 7 highway closure/delays Details

Per Kai Bouwman: the daily CO 7 highway closure/delay access issue is no longer a problem according to CDOT the construction finished as of Nov. 11, 2022.

From CDOT: Colorado Highway 7 is closed daily from MP 23-29.5. Motorists can only travel through the area between 6-8 am and 4-7 pm. During these timeframes, pilot cars will lead alternating one-way travel. Drivers should plan for delays, and this schedule will remain in place through Memorial Day 2022.

During the closure, motorists need to take US 36 to CO 7.

Description

This band is the most recognizable of the four bands as it has the most prominent features. The features such as the Bathtub and Space Balls are easily seen from the road. They are useful navigation aids as they can generally be seen all along the approach.

Getting There

Get yourself to the approach trail (see main area description for details). Continue up it until you're about level with the Bathtub (you can see this most of the way along the approach). Once you're at the proper elevation, cut to your right. You might find a faint trail but more likely you'll be rock hopping on easy slabs and small boulders. The first recognizable route you might reach is called Yegg (a finger- and hand-crack in front of a tree) and is on the Egg which is just to the left of the Bathtub. The approach will probably take 15 or 20 minutes.
