Three sets of cliffs along the Rappahanock River in Fredericksburg, VA.

The main face has been heavily covered in graffiti, and is the first set of cliffs you come across. There is access to the top of the cliffs along the right side, but it requires a short scramble at the very end. The main face is usually pretty sunny, especially at the top, and has several easy climbs along it's front.

The second set, Little General, is a maybe a hundred yards downstream, and also has top access to the right. There are two bolts at the top for anchoring.

Getting There

Take I-95 to Fredericksburg, VA (Exit 130) and head West on VA-3 W/Plank Rd toward Culpeper for about a mile.

Take a right onto Bragg Rd and drive for about a mile.

Turn left onto River Rd and follow down the big hill for 0.7 miles.

Parking is on the right side of the road.

Head toward the river and you will see a trail running off towards the right. Hike along the trail downriver for about a quarter mile. You will see the first set of cliffs on the right.

Prime Climbing Season
River Rock Outfitter provides a free climbing meetup at Rapp Rocks and volunteers countless hours to keep the trail clean of trash and debris. We also have certified PCGI and AMGA climbing staff and partners who provide certified and insured climbing courses on the rocks. While we never claim a monopoly on public land it is important to note that this rock is on private property. We always let our customers know that it is private and ask that they simply care for it. There are two natural anchor points that if damaged will prohibit others climbing and enjoying the trail. As noted in the description the rocks have not always been protected leading to the city gating the parking area and reducing maintenance. In addition, the Fredericksburg Watershed Property Manager requested that whenever possible that we notify him of use at the rocks. Since it is not owned by the city and because it is not well maintained, it is important for his awareness of who is on the land in case of an accident. We hope that the landowner will one day donate the property to the city; however, until that happens climbers should be aware, safe, and respectful of the rocks. Nov 23, 2016
Just visited this route and it was surprisingly well kept. Natural anchors at the top, and the approach was easy to find. Found a local and got great directions.
5927 river road, Fredericksburg VA 22407, if you park next to that address and walk down stream till you see the USGS sign the trail is about 15 to the rocks. Take plenty of water with you and your fishing pole if your in to that. It's a beautiful spot. Jul 31, 2016
The walk down the road to the "trail head" is a bit sketchy people like driving fast on the road. Dec 30, 2015
They closed down the parking for the trail. The closest place to park is about .5 miles further down River Rd. at the parking lot next to Clove Brothers. This will require you to walk that .5 miles to the trail head on River Rd, which is quite narrow and could be dangerous. Apr 7, 2015
