Calanque de Morgiou

International > Europe > France > Calanques
Warning Access Issue: Summer closures DetailsDrop down

Description

This is a huge area for climbers and one that is very accessible. There are over 2500 climbs here and more being developed. Many of those climbs are sport climbs.

It's the second calanques when heading south from Marseille. A curvy road along a canyon lead to a small fisher harbor.

There is camping in the nearby town of Cassis.

Getting There

From Rond-point du Prado go south on Boulevard Michelet.
After 2.3km turn right on Boulevard Camille Blanc and keep going straight on Avenue Ludovic Lègre. Then turn left on Avenue de Mazargues. Keep going straight. the road name will change to Rue Emile Zola and finally to Chemin Vicinal de Morgiou.

You can get there by bus as well. The RTM 21 bus from Castellane to Luminy runs for most of the day. It is a 40 min walk then to the beaches which are surrounded by climbing.

Note the road down to Morgiou is almost always closed in spring, summer, and fall now as of 2019.  You will need to walk in from the edge of town.  Many guidebooks are outdated and get this wrong.
