Description
Southeastern Alaska's panhandle contains the far reaches of the granitic northern Coast Range mountains intertwined with chossy, volcanic, and heavily forested islands. There is a wide variety climbing, from 15,000 foot glaciated mountains where you can see whales feeding on clear days, to world class granite alpine rock climbing, and an ever increasing selection of mossy cliffs of all rock types.
Getting There
Alaska Airlines operates daily flights directly to Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka, and Petersburg. Smaller towns are reached via the Alaska Marine Highway System or small bush plane companies (Alaska Seaplanes in Juneau, Island Air Express & Misty Fjords Air in Ketchikan).
Due to the abundance of tourist visits in the region from cruise ships, many Southeast Alaskan towns have year-round access to the surrounding mountains via helicopter.
