Description [Suggest Change]

Perhaps the single most mythical boulder in the Sandias? The full package: technical, long, hard and intimidating with amazing rock.

Getting There [Suggest Change]

Head directly west from the Trail Side boulders for the triangular shaped boulder on the hillside. Screaming Jihad is in the wash around the corner.

Just to be clear, I don't believe there is any glue on Screaming Jihad. At least I don't recall any when I went to look at it several years ago. Jan 20, 2011

There is no glue on screaming jihad itself but the line to the left is all chipped up and there is glue on some of the holds. Super lame shit. Thanks Timy! Jan 21, 2011
I walked out to check out the conditions at Screaming jihad and found no glue at all. The seam that Tom is concerned with looks highly suspicious, however. The traditional ethic in the canyon has been natural holds only and any other behavior threatens access as Open Space and Wilderness laws apply. Feb 4, 2011

You are correct Eric, there is no glue on Screaming Jihad and the chipped portion is the line to the left that leads into the latter portion of Screaming Jihad. I think the glue reference was more general and referred to such areas as U Mound, Glue Mound (the bench above and to the SE of U Mound proper), and the Tram boulders. Not all of these were the exclusive work of Fairfield, but we all know who else was involved. We can thank him for gluing the Temple and Big Block (and drilling pockets at the Woodie and Eerie). Most of this happened years ago, but some is much more recent and on-going as with his development at the Bat Cave.

I agree, leave the holds as is or just walk away. We don't need areas closed due to anyone's short-sightedness. Feb 4, 2011

The 3 most recent comments have been moved into the New Mexico rock modification forum since they really did not pertain to Screaming Jihad in particular. Feb 14, 2011
