Description
Playa Pie de Gigante is in south western Nicaragua. There are at least 2 sandstone cliffs right on the water that have some potential. There has been no developement of the area and no one ever climbs here. The rock is a bit crumbly, but mostly because the routes need to be cleaned of the choss on the surface of the rock. The area is ripe for sport climbing, but currently there are only trees for anchors and no bolts. Be prepared for some bushwacking to get off the tops of the climbs unless you wish to leave rappel slings.
The area is a surf mecca so there are plenty of hostels and hotels nearby and a couple of pulperias for buying food and beer as well as some really great restaraunts (both local and foreigner-run).

Getting There
Fly into Managua, take a bus down to Rivas and then catch the bus to Las Salinas. Tell the bus driver to drop you off for Gigante and then walk/hitchhike 7 km to the beach. Alternatively, and recommended for first timers, take a taxi from Rivas for about $20. The rock is on the southern portion of the beach and is impossible to miss.
