Description

This large formation lies atop the east end of the rubble pile that contains Volcano Boulder and is located more or less directly behind and uphill from it. Three routes are found on the prominent south face, Vesuvius (5.7), Shalinqua (5.10d) and Rapture of the Steep (5.12b), with another, Krakatoa
(5.9+), on the shady north side.

Getting There

Drive south on the Geology Tour Road for about 4.5 miles and park along the side of the road. Hike east along the south side of the obvious rubble pile, passing the landmark Volcano Boulder and then boulder hop up to the base of the formation - the approach takes about 15-20 minutes from the car if you hit it right.
