Description

The Woodstone rock outcropping sits above Slot Rock and just below Half & Half Crag. The alcove between Woodstone and Half & Half crags presents great views of the high peaks and the Estes Valley. Most of the routes on Woodstone, Half & Half, and Slot Rock are within 50 yd. of the alcove. There are a growing number of newer sport routes and they are well worth the visit!

Getting There

Likely best approached from the Homer Rouse parking Lot, just next to the Baldpate Inn.Aim for Slot Rock and pass it on its south (right) side. Then pass Woodstone on its south (right) side also and scramble up into The Alcove. (See Half & Half Crag info.)Per Bob Siegrist: during summer 2018, route development at the Woodstone and Half and Half crags resulted in nearly a dozen new sport routes. This also resulted in a path through the woods on U.S. Gov't. land from the overflow parking for Lily Lake. The hike to Woodstone and Half and Half can now be done via a mellow path through the woods without crossing any private property. It takes about 30 to 35 minutes to hike up and only 20 to 25 minutes to hike down. Bob Siegrist posted an approach map and description on the MP pages for those crags.

Note: Woodstone, Half and Half, and Slot Rock are outside RMNP and can be accessed without entering RMNP lands; however, if you plan to park in a RMNP trailhead lot (e.g., Lily Lake or Twin Sisters), a timed entry pass is required during 2021 but only if you arrive at the parking area after 9am and before 3pm. If you arrive prior to 9am or after 3pm, you do not need a timed entry pass, and you can park all day without having a pass.
