Getting weather forecast...
DescriptionTardosbánya is an abandoned limestone quarry found near the village of Tardos. The area is secluded and makes for a great weekend retreat from the city.
The rock quality is excellent with many varied features. You will find great jugs, some cracks, lots of crimps, etc. Different walls are in shade or sun at varying times of the day so there is pretty much something always climbable.
There are 104 routes listed in the Magyarország Sziklamászó Kalauza ranging in difficulty from III to IX (UIAA rating). This corresponds to 5.4 and 5.13a grades in the Yosemite grading system. This crag will keep you busy for a while.
There are a few trad routes that require gear but for the most part, the routes are well bolted (albeit, the first bolts tend to be somewhat high). The grades are somewhat stiff, bring your courage along with you.
Getting ThereIt's possible to take local buses from Tatabánya but it's probably best to drive. From the center of the village of Tardos, follow the Rákoczi Ferenc utca past the church until you end up on a dirt road. Park at the small pullout in front of the gate.
Walk uphill on the dirt road for about 10 to 15 minutes and look for the trail leading off into the woods on the right. Follow the trail for another 5 to 10 minutes or so and you'll be at the crag.
