Interstate 10 Crags

California > Joshua Tree NP
Warning Access Issue: Climbing Regulations/Seasonal Raptor Closures Details DetailsDrop down

Description

These are the crags you see south of Interstate 10 as you drive east towards Phoenix. They are just past the Chiriaco Summit area, maybe 1/2 hour east of Indio and not far from the Cottonwood Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. They aren't actually in the Park but I placed them there as it's the closest location.

Getting There

Drive east on I-10 to the next two exits past Chiriaco Summit. These exits are Hayfield, and then Eagle Mountain. Both have climbing and the crags are visible as you look south from Interstate 10.

Anybody know the access status of this area? These are everywhere in the Hayfield exit area as of March 2020. I don't recall Eagle Mtn having any.

[Hide Comment] Is this area actually past Chiriacco Summit? Awhile back we attempted to climb at Chiriacco Summit based on the information we had in the JT guidebook, but we were disappointed that the area is off limits because of some local public agency (no trespassing signs were everywhere). So we were curious if these climbs are actually outside the park. Oct 18, 2010
