Description

This is a lone boulder on the side of the Alameda Parkway, just half a mile shy of the exit ramp to C-470. It is considered Green Mountain Open Space. This needs some more cleaning, and a few holds do break. I recommend a pad, though the landings are quite good. There is a lot of potential for dynos, but since I had no pad, I didn't try any. I'm sure it's been climbed before, but I figured I'd add it to here.

Getting There

From Lakewood, follow the Alameda Parkway towards C-470. This is on the right side on the side of a hill. From C-470, take the exit to Alameda Parkway and follow it towards Lakewood. The boulder is on the left side on the side of a hill.

Wildlife

Per Locopelli: be on the watch for rattlesnakes. Also, coyotes appear in the area.

Three of us went to visit Matt today and set up a little webbing "body belay top rope" on a few of the routes. We encountered a rattlesnake when walking around the north end of the rock, so keep eyes peeled. We named him Matt Demon--assuming we still have "first encounter" rights. Three coyotes were also visiting as we drove up.

I'd put most of the moves at 5.5 to 5.6 if you're so inclined. Not too familiar with the V scale for bouldering, but it was very worth the visit! It was my buddy's first time on rock, and I think he's hooked. Jun 2, 2013

I'll be honest, I didn't expect anyone would ever hop on this, which makes the few comments and ticks fantastic. May 27, 2013

I just hopped the fence today and parked across Alameda in the large, obvious pullout. Nothing you'd make a big trip for, but if you live or work close by, it's good for a quick workout. The 2 crimpy problems are actually decent. May 3, 2011

There's that dog park on the south side of Alameda at which you could potentially park...but that's a little bit of a hike (bushwhacking).... I've been hopping the fence and haven't been told not to. Mar 4, 2011

Is there another way to access this besides hopping the fence off of Alameda? Feb 14, 2011

I agree Dave, just a little place close to home to get my fix in at. Jun 22, 2010

Most of the rock is very gritty sandstone that breaks off quite easily. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the holds for these routes weather away in the next couple years. Jun 4, 2010
