Description

Deep Creek Narrows is a great little climbing area right outside the town of Running Springs. A short approach (and easy access if you know how to find the trail) makes this a nice easy morning or afternoon outing, but also makes it an easy spot to get to and litter, which seems to be a popular activity.

There are a number of developed routes in Deep Creek Narrows, most pretty short, but some are 50 feet or more. The rock is a good fine-grained granite that is smooth in places, slightly grainy in other, and generally easy on the hands.

Brad Singer's guidebook divides the Narrows into a number of smaller subdivisions, including the West, North, Southeast, East, and Lower East faces, and Dan Block.

This area is part of the Deep Creek Preserve, and that, along with area ethic, dictates a no bolting policy that you need to respect, and please take some trash (including all of your own) out with you. This is an idyllic location, or it could be...

Getting There

From Highway 18 in Running springs, go north on Hunsaker Road then a quick right onto Hunsacker Way, a quick left onto West Drive and then a right onto Cove Circle. Follow Cove Circle around until you reach a dirt road which is the approved access point for Deep Creek.

Alternately, you can drive along Hunsaker past Encinas and park along the road, though you may run into property owners who object to you crossing their property. There's a fenced-in property on the right where you can skirt the fence until you hit a trail that drops down to the creek. Along the way you may see a USFS sign, then a homemade sign that says (at the moment)

"Deep Creek Narrow -->

<--Certain Death"

Following the trail to Deep Creek Narrows will take you downhill to the Narrows. From there, you can scramble around until you see the face you're looking for.

If possible, add the coordinates for the crags here on the map to your phone.

Hello, I live in Running Springs. I've been a full time resident for 29 years. I'm writing to you about "the deep creek narrows". Unfortunatly your website tells people to walk down my driveway and through my back yard past a no trespassing sign to get to the narrows. This route takes them very close to my bedroom windos, some even look inside my house or even walk onto my back patio. More thatn 1000 people a year walk to the narrows. Thats more that 1000 people a year invading my privacy. There are now 4 no trespassing signs posted on my property and on the adjacent water company property. Its is 100% illegal to trespass down the driveway and trough my backyard and patio. Please remove the incorrect directions to "the deep creek narrows" from your website. The forest service approverd access point for the deep creek narrows is a dirt road off of Circle Cove rd. in Running Springs. Thank you. May 8, 2013
