Description
This is the long section of cliff on the opposite side of the lake from the Whippoorwill Area. It is home to some very nice trad lines as well as a few high quality sport climbs. Long Point gets early morning sun until 12 or 1 PM. The wall just to the left of the beach descent trail (facing the lake) stays in the sun up to an hour longer than the rest of the cliff. It is only accessible during the low water periods for Summersville Lake.
Getting There
Turn on to Airport Road and follow it for 2.5 miles to the locked gate. Park here (don't block the gate). From here walk along the dirt road. When you reach the second gate, take the faint trail immediately to the left. Follow this trail until you reach a T in the old archery range. At the T, go left and follow the trail, head slightly right when you reach shooting late 26 and follow down the hill. Near the lake you will find that the trail crosses a small stream, don't cross the steam but head down to the lake on the left side of the stream. After about 100 yds, the trail will head down to the right toward the drainage. Cross the drainage and you end up at the beach area of Long Point.
There are other approaches if you plan to climb further down the cliff and you don't feel like walking the lake bed all the way.
