Description
This area has the longest approach of any climb in the Park that I know of. The approach take between 2 and 3 hours of up hill hiking. The area, and The Mother of All Spires, can be seen from the main highway, WAY up on the hillside to the south, just as you drive past the Indian Cove turn off, heading east. This area can also be approached from the top of Queen Mountain, but that way could even be a further hike. There is plenty of rock to climb in this area, but getting there and still having any energy or desire to climb is the challenge.
Getting There
Go to the 49 Palms Oasis parking lot. Hike to the 49 Palms Oasis. From there, head east, crossing a N/S drainage, and just keep heading east up another canyon until about even with the spire, which, I believe you can see every now and again. When even with the spirt, head up and south to the spire. Approach time 2 to 3 hours.
