Access Issue: Sensitive Area Details

Locals have agreed to allow open access to Green Mountain Rd. into the Quarry. There have been some issues in the past about speeding so drive slow and be respectful to anyone who you meet (many of them like to hike into the quarry and the neighboring trails)

Description

Bolton Quarry in Bolton VT. Area is somewhat sensitive but rock is VT schist which lends itself to subtle climbing. Many easy to moderate climbing in the quarry proper plus harder routes (up to 5.12) exist on the short-but-stout Cat's Ass Wall.

Getting There

Get off of route 89 onto route 2 in either Richmond (if coming from north) or Waterbury (if coming from south) until you see Green Mountain Road. Follow the drive way all the way to the top until you see the small parking area. Please drive under 10 mph once you are on green mountain drive as the locals are very sensitive to speeding and noise. Speeding will threaten access to this area.

***Winter/Spring Driveway Closure***

In winter CRAG-VT does not plow the driveway. Additionally, the road is roped off in the spring for mud season. When the driveway is closed, do not park anywhere along Green Mountain Road or you are liable to be towed at your expense.

During non-school hours you may park at the Smilie School on Rt. 2. During school hours park at the end of Bolton Valley Access Road. The quarry driveway usually opens around early April.
