Description

Battlement Crag is the small brown and black dome located approximately 200 feet northwest of the White Gunks Wall and around 1,000 feet north of The Quarry. The southwest/downhill face of the dome is the tallest aspect at about 100 feet. The nature of the rock varies considerably around the dome since it has a couple rock type contacts, sometimes including a band of coarse-grained, weathered granite at ground level. Portions of the rock appear to have suffered from Terry Barton’s Haymen Fire wrath with black residue, baked guano, and scorched rocks. The top of the dome provides a good panorama of the Thunder Ridge area.

Getting There

Battlement Crag is visible from the approach road hillside west of Thunder Ridge. Walk down the hillside, cross the creek, and follow the cairned trail up the slope that would lead to the Alligator Lounge and crosses between the White Gunks Wall and the Battlement Crag.
