DescriptionNational Forest land that is situated in-between the two Parks of Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Sun/shade mix at around 7500'. Dozens, if not hundreds of problems exist, that is if you are willing to walk around. A good area to explore around and find FA's! Lots of boulders can be seen from the Park Hwy.
Always check road conditions and peregrine closures Details
Getting ThereFrom Sequoia Natl Park, drive north past the Sequoia park boundry, and into the Natl Forest. Go to the Crane Flat or Hume Lake turnoff on your right. This is found a mile or so past the Kings Canyon overlook. Park in the large parking lot, that has a toilet. This lot is found right accross the street from the turnoff to Redwood Meadow. Walk north, up a small dirt road with a gate then walk 2-10 mins more. Boulders are on the left. Aprox.35 mins. from Lodgepole.
From Kings Canyon, drive south towards Sequoia, go into Natl Forest land and look for Crane Flat/Hume Lake turnoff to your left. Walk up dirt road past gate for 2-10 mins. Aprox.15 mins from Grant Grove village.
There is also a dirt pullout that is big enough for 2 vehicles that is just north (400ft.) of the large parking lot. The pullout is on the west side of the highway and provides the best access to some nice boulders visible from the road.
Free dispersed camping nearby in the Natl. Forest. or pay in the Parks or at Hume Lake.
