Aruba

International > N America

Description

Aruba is part of the "ABC" islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) located off the coast of Venezuela in the Carribean. The optimum time to visit is January - July. Precipitation and temperatures are much higher August through December.

The majority of the roped climbing is located in the south of the Island, near San Nicholas. As of 03-2025, there are roughly 100 established climbing routes, with scope for perhaps 100 hundred more and hundreds of additional boulder problems. If you wish to visit and develop additional routes, you should ONLY use titanium. Because of the marine environment, stainless steel becomes untrustworthy after about 10 years.

Getting There

The most common mode of transportation to Aruba is by air. There are numerous direct flights to Aruba from east coast cities in the US.  A valid US Passport is required as well as registering before your trip in the online Aruba entry document system.

Once on the island, having a rental vehicle is by far the most convenient way to get to the cliffs.

[Hide Comment] have climbed aruba for the past two years. Its great climbing, some easy vertical routes on the left side and some steep routes through the overhang. I don't know how great the bolts are being that its so close to the ocean but i have used them and most of them look solid. you can toprope most climbs here with a long cordelette or a small bit of static rope. I hear the climbs were established using a car on top the cliff for a toprope anchor. Feel free to PM me for more information. Ill be down there July 25- august 8th this year, if you plan to be there get in touch lets climb. Jul 14, 2014

[Hide Comment] Hello Victoria,

Next website is the topo with the grape field, rock climbing area of Aruba.

climbingaruba.org

There are not many people climbing here. And it is advisable to set up a toprope here, rather than lead climb. A 40m rope should be sufficient. Be aware of sharp edges!

Greetings,

[Hide Comment] Hello, fellow climbers!

The weather here is steady and the people are friendly. Most people drive past Grapefield Crag, on the way to another area. If you are planning on climbing here, be sure to bring all of your own equipment and at least one partner. It has been impossible for me to find any tour or guide in the island to go do this on my own. Jul 22, 2017

[Hide Comment] All, I've been bouldering in Aruba for the last few weeks and will continue for a few more. I've been checking out the existing problems and adding new areas and boulder problems as I've explored what is an amazing island with lots of potential. It is very hot but there's always a breeze.

At this stage in my life, I have a little under a year experience bouldering & climbing and not a lot of outdoor experience. Thus, the problems I am setting up are on a more beginner difficulty. I hope my ratings are fairly accurate.
I was not able to bring a crash pad so have been staying close to the ground or finding sandy areas.

Let me know any questions you have. Jul 12, 2024
