Historically perhaps the most important climbing are in the Lake District . It was on the slopes of this mountain that some of the first rock climbs were recorded .The most famous being Napes Needle. The mountain is situated above the Wasdale Valley and can be approached either from this valley (about an hour and a half) or by about the same time from the Borrowdale valley. As well as the great number of rock climbs on this mountain it is also one of the most popular hikes in the Lake District.
