Description

Idyllwild County Park is situated in the town of Idyllwild and plays host to a number of granite boulders scattered around the campground. With the climbing situated nearby you'll often find yourself the only climbers here. In winter when all but 6 camping spots are closed the area can be very tranquil.

It is part of Riverside County Parks and therefore has rules and regulations like the other parks. It also has an entrance fee ($2 per adult, $1 per dog).

Getting There

From the stop sign at the rangers station turn south west along Lower Pinecrest Avenue. Turn right into Playground Road and the park is found a short distance along here.

Just an FYI to everyone... I recently moved to Idyllwild and plan to add more content to this area since I live down the street. There seems to be very little information in the guidebook world (1 page in Craig Fry's guide) so I think it will benefit the community to flesh this place out a bit. If anything that I add seems wrong/inaccurate or improperly named, or poor quality, please let me know and I'll be glad to change/improve anything. In the interest of making the park easy to navigate, I will provide tentative names to the boulders but if there are existing names, please let me know and I'll modify my postings. Also, please let me know if there are any other resources I could access for more existing info. Thanks! Feb 27, 2013

The Fry Guide has most of this stuff. If it's not named in the Fry Guide, and it's not a FA, definitely don't try to give it a name. Retro-naming is lame! Sep 12, 2013
Idyllwild County Park has fees: $6.00 per adult and $2.00 dog (kids are $3). You can buy a annual pass for $50 a year or go to the non-profit Friends of Mt.San Jacinto Nature Center and buy a pass there - comparable rates but the Friends "family" pass fr $60.00 will let you bring up to 5 family members with you - it is only good at Idyllwild park. The Riverside County Annual pass is good for all Riverside County Park locations. Jan 25, 2019
