Description
At an elevation of over 8500, Mount Bigelow is one of the tallest peaks in the Santa Catalina range. A series of maintained gravel roads means easy access to free camping, good hiking, and incredible climbing. The road is gated from December 31 - March 1st, but a trail up from the ranger station still allows access during this time.
Getting There
Just over a mile after the Palisade ranger station make a right onto Mount Bigelow Rd (milepost 21). At the first intersection make a right (gate), then at the next intersection stay to the left (the middle road has good camping). Follow this to the trailhead parking at the top of Bigelow.
