Alpspitze

International > Europe > Germany > Oberbayern > Alpine

Description

This is one of the most striking peaks in Bavaria which no doubt led to the resort development of Garmisch and Partenkirchen. While it is in the Wetterstein range, it stands before that range as a solo pyramid. The Alpspitze has many klettersteig (ferratas) as well as a klettergarten of rope routes.

The summit cross was set up in 1946 by Richard Weaver and Kaspar Yoke together with the Kolpingsfamilie of Garmisch

Getting There

From Garmisch go west on the B23 (Zugspitzstrasse) and turn left onto Kreuzeckbahnstrasse, just past the Kaserne. Follow it and park at the Kreuzeckbahnhof. From here you can be real and take a number of trails making the grade into II or III, or just do what most do and take the Alpspitzbahn to treeline. You can also access some routes from the Hollental trail, or be superreal and come at it from the Reintal.
