ICBJ Boulder

Colorado > Independence Pass

Description

This boulder has two overhangs on it.

Getting There

The boulder is on the South side of the road between the road and Roaring Fork River as one is driving up Independence Pass i.e., traveling East. However, you can't see the boulder from the road because the hillside it's on falls away steeply from the road to the river below.

Drive East up Independence Pass and park at the Devil's Punch Bowl lot just past mile marker 50 on the right. There is room for 6-8 cars in the lot. Walk back down the road, West, about 600' until you see a triangle shaped rock on the left, South. Keep scanning the steep hillside below you. Eventually, just before reaching the triangle rock you'll see a huge log laying parallel to the road about 10' below you in a talus field. The ICBJ boulder/cave is just below the log another 15' or so.

Looking West, towards Aspen. ICBJ Boulder is the large rock in the foreground just behind the long downed dead tree mostly parallel to the road in the talus. Notice the triangle-shaped rock further down and adjacent to the road on the left.
