Description

This area includes the east-facing formations found in Devils Canyon proper and routes found along the left, past the road area, when hiking toward Devil's Canyon.

Getting There

Driving directions/parking: Follow driving directions from main Lower Devil's Canyon page. With high clearance 4wd you can park at the end of the road (the ant hill). This is also a popular primitive camping spot, as evidenced by the increasing number of fire pits and trash left behind - please practice LNT. Without high clearance 4wd, park off the road as far as you are comfortable driving and hike the rest of the way in. Parts of the last segment of the road between the Hackberry parking pullout (just past the windmill) and the end of the road is the roughest of the entire drive in.

Approach: To get to routes - proceed east from end of road/parking area and pass through an opening in a barbed wire fence. A climber trail will branch to the north (left) for the Glitter Box area, continue on a bit then branch to the south (right) for the Totem Pole and other routes nearby.

Alternatively, you can access a number of routes from the top (all routes between Hola Larry! & Sublime Line as well as one more north of that).  At the end of the road/parking area, head north up to the top of the ridge and then proceed directly east.  Sublime Line is probably the easiest to find.

[Hide Comment] The biners attached to quick links at the anchors ARE NOT BOOTY! PLEASE DO NOT TAKE. Over the last few weeks, I've been stunned to find many of our hard placed biners gone throughout Lower Devils and also in The Refuge. Please leave the biners in place! Gradually we are replacing with chains as it's frustrating to be constantly losing these key parts of the anchors. Jan 8, 2017
[Hide Comment] Great climbing. Lots of tall routes. A good number of N. facing or shaded routes so can climb there in warm weather. Anticipate a loose and crumbly approach with some scrambling and chimney bits for some routes. Worth the extra effort. Many routes have generous bolt spacing so heed the notes on run-outs and bring supplemental gear if you are less than "comfortable at the grade". Apr 24, 2022
