Summer Day Valley is one of the most popular areas in the Grampians, providing both easy routes and toproping on excellent sandstone. The drive is short and the approach takes 5 – 10 minutes. It’s a good place for a first visit to the Grampians, though one may see lines at the base of popular routes and numerous top ropers on long weekends (of which Australia seems to have many).

All the routes require gear for protection, though some hard lines have a bolt or two. Nearby Mt. Stapylton campground has water and toilets.

Take the Western Hwy from Stawell for 11km past Dadswells Bridge and turn on "Wonwomdah" road at a sign for "Laharum/Wartook/Mt Zero/Halls Gap". After 3 km go left down a dirt road. Take the next right to the Hollow Mountain parking area.

The trail with a sign, "Rock Climbing Area", heads left into Summer Day Valley. The left side of the valley, confusingly called the "Back Wall", lies opposite the bright orange Wall Of Fools.

On the rear of the Back Wall is the Main Wall, with many pleasant routes. Waxman (11) is a good warm up, with good pro and large holds. Texas Radio and the Big Beat (17) and Halfway Hotel (18) are well worth climbing and located side by side.

Camping
Stapylton campground: continue down the road past Mt Zero picnic area and follow signs.
