HUMAN WASTE: Human waste is a major issue plaguing the area. The Southern Nevada Climbers Coalition (SNCC) works to provide "wag bags" free of charge in several locations: Black Velvet Canyon, The Hamlet, Kraft Mountain Area, The Gallery, and The Black Corridor. These bags are designed so that you can pack your waste out. Consider bringing one to be part of your daily kit no matter where you go. Once used, please dispose of them properly. Do not throw them in the toilets at the parking areas.
See https://www.southernnevadaclimbers.org/wag-bags for more information on the program.
Description
Excellent sport destination with several high quality routes ranging from 11- to 13-, including the standout Hotline, one of the best of the grade in Red Rock. If there are more than a few parties the crag can feel quite crowded, as there are not many independent starts.
The walls face northeast and northwest. In the middle of winter, the walls are shaded nearly all day. On longer spring days, the left routes receive a bit of early morning sun and the right routes receive late afternoon shade, with the dividing line being the Hotline/Paralyzed arête. The crag is often exposed to wind. There is a great, flat place at the base to hang out.
Getting There
From the west end of the Kraft Mountain Trailhead parking lot, hike a gravel road (or dirt trails to the right) heading west past an abandoned building project. Continue along a dirt trail until you can look up and left (southwest) and see a natural rock bridge. Hike/scramble up the steep hillside to the right side of the bridge and cross over or next to it, continuing up the gully to the base of an obvious, huge boulder with a very steep north face. There are many ways to hike the initial hillside to reach the rock bridge, here is a photo detailing one way:
0.8 miles and 550 feet of elevation gain. 25-35 minutes, though route finding can add a few minutes on the first time up.
