This area is located on the east side of the North Quarry/Pinnacles Area at the top of the road accessing the top of North Table Mountain. It is east-facing, so expect shade after 1pm.

Getting There

Hike up old mining road located off CO Highway 93, or access via City of Golden North Table Mountain's North Trailhead, as for Pinnacles Area/North Quarry Areas. Stay on road heading for the top of Pinnacle Area Cliffs. The most stable descent is now probably from the south/left side.

Access update: JeffCo Open Space has done a lot of trail work on N. Table this year, including rebuilding (and reopening) the access trails to Crater Crag. Even nice signage to climbing areas. Kudos to the Open Space workers. Guess hidden treasures aren't hidden any more, but it sure beats closures. Nov 21, 2012

The "crater" is a 50-ft-deep hole in the top of the mesa, located between the Sea Cliffs side of the North Quarry (to the east) and the Pinnacle area to the west. Historical access has been via an old mining road over this narrow piece of the mesa, but this road now has closed signs on log barricades at both the north and south ends. I don't see the logic in closing these natural access points, as now new trails are developing to circumvent the closure blockades. Seems counterproductive. Apr 29, 2011
I just published a new guidebook titled "Golden Rock Climbs" that is a complete guide to N. Table Mtn (including the four newly developed quarry walls) and the sport climbs of Golden Gate State Park near Dude's Fishing Hole. The book retails for $20.00. There is a photo and information to the Crater Crag. I especially enjoyed "Misty" (5.11d), a sustained pumpy route that is interesting for bottom to top. Sep 16, 2010
