Description

This huge chunk of granite is hidden above the mini boulder ravine on a small hill. The rock here is bullet proof rock which is comparable to donner summit's granite. With a handful of very high quality routes, it is definitely worth the extra 15 minute hike. Currently there are 6 problems ranging from V-easy to V6 and one project, which looks easily harder than V10.

Getting There

This boulder is very tricky to find, but well worth the effort. From the Atari boulder walk a few yards further until u see a faint side drainage leading up and right on the right side of the ravine. Follow this ravine to the top of the ridge. From here there is a small field with a road crossing it. Walk to the road then look up the small hill. About half way up the hill there is the hidden in plain site boulder. Hike up through the bushes until u are at the base of the boulder.
The second option is to start out at the scenic boulders and traverse along the ridge till u hit the open field, then cross the field to the road and keep going to the hidden in plain sight boulder.

Sorry not yet. The boulder is roughly 15 feet, so pretty good height and one of the taller boulders in the area. Apr 19, 2009

I haven't been to the boulder itself, but according to the directions, description, and what the area looks like in person, the GPS marker: 39°25'55.2"N 119°50'41.1"W is our best bet for finding this hidden boulder. While hiking The mini Boulders area, you will be able to see this hill full of large boulders above you to the north west, thus the name "Hidden in Plain Sight". This hill has taunted me, because from afar it looks like it's filled to the brim with even larger rocks to climb, and you can plainly see the area for about 70% of the entire hike to the mini boulders. The hill is another long hike in itself just to get to the base of it. I would suggest following the dirt roads to get there, bush whacking in that area can be risky. I'll make sure to do some more research and let you all know what I find. Jun 5, 2018

Update to previous comment: The area I mentioned didn't turn out to be the Hidden In Plain Sight Boulder, it's entirely new! My phone died, so I didn't get any pictures this time around. It's a hell of a hike to get up into that previously mentioned new area. And it's more lava rock up there (of course). After doing a little more exploring, I found the true Hidden In Plain Sight Boulder: 39°25'35.7"N 119°50'35.3"W Jun 5, 2018
