The Alcove

California > Sierra Eastside > Mammoth Lakes Area > Sherwin Plateau > Alcove Area

Description

This impressive rock feature hosts a number of good problems, on good pocketed tuff. The pockets are generally large and sharp.

The alcove is formed by a wave like piece of rock which is vertical at the bottom, but overhanging at its top. As you reach the top of a number of the problems you have the distinct feeling of the wave wanting to crash over the top of your head.

Getting There

From the parking lot, walk east down a faint trail along a sandy wash. The wall is soon seen.
