Description

If you've explored the Davis Mountains region of West Texas, you've seen plenty of rock. As a climber, this is one of the most frustrating regions in the South, especially for a state the size of Texas, due to the general absence of publicly owned land. Point of Rocks, being at least partially accessible, is a site for sore eyes after driving through an area filled with potential.
To truly sample Point of Rocks, one must cross several fallen fences.

Getting There

If traveling south from Ft. Davis, head south on hwy. 17 for about 2 miles. Then, turn right (west) on hwy. 166 for 10 miles. P.O.R. sits next to and above a roadside picnic area. This area is impossible to miss.

A buddy of mine and I are driving out to Hueco and are considering stopping at Point of Rocks. Does anyone have any recommendations? Feel free to email me at hunter4444@live.com

I was out there this weekend messing around and saw two bolts on top of a big boulder. And as I hiked to the top of the area I looked down on the slab face and saw three anchors with rap rings. Not sure what was below it. Nov 15, 2010
I have bouldered at the roadside picnic area.
