Description Suggest change

The name is misleading. Think of it more like 50 mile canyon. The history of this area is amazing. Filled with Native American Artifacts, this is a fascinating area to bring a family. Unfortunately, the real good stuff, archeology speaking... is still off limits to the general public. But this region is filled with rock and rock art... all the way to the Green River. This region is on the edge of suspicion for many activities. Not the least of which is the "Interplanetary Airfield." Get off the main canyon road if you dare...

It is also the location of much oil and natural gas. Thus making this stretch of land very controversial.

Climbing wise, there are lots of things to climb. New routes to be had in abundance. However, for the most part, the rock can be pretty rotten. Explore and you may be rewarded.

Getting There Suggest change

There are a few ways of getting here. But the most common, and easiest is to turn north off of Highway 6 in the town of Wellington.

  • ** Again, it should be noted that it is NOT a nine mile drive into the region from highway 6.
