Description

This recently developed area is the best place at The Quarry for easy routes as it offers a concentrated selection of over a dozen routes 5.10 and under, with most routes being 5.9 or easier. All the routes are relatively short and tend to be more slabby than the typical Quarry route (Slab City being the exception).

The area, and all of the routes, are names from the popular 1970's television program Schoolhouse Rock which featured animated cartoons with an educational theme.

Some of the better routes here include The Energy Blues (5.6), Interplanet Janet (5.6), The Check's in the Mail (5.7), Conjunction Junction (5.9) & What's Your Function? (5.10b).

Definitely a nice area to warm up on in the Quarry. Note - the routes here are not a stellar representation of many of the routes on the main wall. These routes offer a more varied level of climbing with mostly slabby sections. Definitely a nice area to get your feet wet before moving on to the big wall. Note, there are several holds throughout these routes that were adapted after the fact (cemented or otherwise fixed into place) and are VERY crumbly - DO NOT RELY on them. Mar 12, 2017

Be sure to stay on route in this area. I have seen rocks that are a couple cubic feet come down in School House Rocks a few times. Be aware that it may be the result of some inexperienced new climber above you. The rest of the high traffic areas in the quarry are cleaned up pretty well. Apr 27, 2014

Pretty much a big giant, low-angled slab. Many easy and safe routes, which are good for leading and climbing newbies. Chossy at times. Dec 26, 2013
This place is awesome and super easy. Its great for taking newbies on top ropes. This place is great for top roping and for beginner leaders (sport). Lots of rock fall so bring helmets. Helmets are a great idea for this area. Sep 30, 2010
