Outlaw Wall

Idaho > N Idaho > Q'Emiln Park

Description

Really impressive wall, just needs some traffic. Long trad and sport lines and what looks to be some decent bouldering. Don’t let the approach scare you away.

Getting There

This wall can be approached from the Post Falls Community Forest (PFCF) Lot or the main lot for Q’emiln Park.
From the main lot: approach as for lower fifth canyon. After turning off the wagon trail for lower fifth, you go down a steep hill with a little easy down climbing. At the base of this hill, you hit a large valley and a T intersection in the trail, take a left, and then an immmediate right at the (purple/green/yellow) trailmarker. Near the top of the ridge line the trail starts to head up and left, turn downhill, and right, on an obvious trail to go to the base of Outlaw wall, before the ridge line you are walking on turns into a cliff.
Look at the PFCF map (online PDF). The purple/green/yellow trail follows the rim of outlaw cliff. Fairly easy to piece together the approach using this map (in photos below).
Alternatively (from PFCF Lot) follow the road all the way down to river level; before reaching lower fifth canyon, use existing trails to head uphill and east.

[Hide Comment] Some excellent moderate routes here. By far the longest routes in the whole park. At least one trad route and probably five sport routes (if not more). Check em out! Sep 11, 2019

Lots of room for new routes. Worth the walk. Substained and long. Not your typical q'emiln experience. Oct 7, 2019

[Hide Comment] Awesome wall, with long moderate routes! Oct 28, 2019
[Hide Comment] As of May, 2020 the trail signs for Newfound Wall and Outlaw Wall are reversed from what is on the map and what is posted here. Currently the trail that goes to this wall has a Newfound Wall sign at the top. By following that trail you will arrive at the climbs described on this page. The trail signs for Outlaw Wall.will take you to the location that is marked as Newfound Wall on the map. That trail is closer to Lower Fifth. May 27, 2020
[Hide Comment] How long is the approach, roughly? Jun 18, 2021

[Hide Comment] I did a route here back in about 1995, I called it Kinnickinnick and thought it about 5.9. It was pretty runout though, and it depended upon some gear in horizontal cracks, as well as a few bolts. I wonder if it was ever retrobolted and renamed. It ended in a notch at the top. Feb 9, 2022

[Hide Comment] This wall is now a fine destination with good bolting, long, aesthetic climbs, and solid anchors. Approach is about 30 minutes. To reach the top of the crag, follow the purple trail from the parking lot main trail closest to the entrance kiosk. You will make several turns but they are marked. There is a bit of rock scrambling but the trail is obvious. When you have been walking for about 25 minutes, you will head up a series of slopes ever upward and slightly to the left, passing several large rock pile cairns. When you reach the top cairn, cut away from the trail to the right to the cliff edge. Most of the anchors are accessible here. To go to the bottom, head to hiker's right (climber's left) and down to a notch/saddle, then work your way down and left to the base. It is shady most of the day with some direct sun mid-day. Climbs tend toward the crimpy, technical, and vertical. Jun 14, 2022
