The Rail Yard

Idaho > N Idaho > Laclede > E Pull Out

Description

A few (probably 10 or less) sport routes wedged between the train tracks and the Pend Orielle river. We found the quality of these climbs to be far more enjoyable than the climbs on the north side of the road at the main faces and the approach was really simple, plus you can jump in the river and take a dip if it gets too hot.

Railyard Blues (5.10c) and Locomotion (5.11c) are directly off the tracks, along with a couple other routes. The wall below the tracks towards the lake has the rest of the routes, and is in the "Climber's Guide to North Idaho" guidebook as a separate area called "The Riverside Rocks."

There are easy to moderate routes here, from vertical to over hangs.

Watch for trains of you are climbing or bouldering near the tracks.

Getting There

On the South side of the road from the parking pullouts, Park at the first pull out, cross the road at the west end of the guard rail and follow the trail down across the train tracks.
