Description Suggest change

Fantastic multipitch granite domes within an ancient fortress. Y. Chouinard has a route here from the 1960s. Trad as well as super run-out sport. Mostly slab and crack climbing. Camping allowed with permit. Route maps can be found in gear shops near park entrance. Do not go on Sunday unless you want crowds.

Getting There Suggest change

6/25/2022 - Chan

The approach hike to Insu-bong is on the east side of Bukhansan National Park just north of Seoul. There are several options to get to the approach hike. CHECK THE NUMBERED PHOTOS ON HOW TO GET TO THE STAGING AREA FOR ALL THE MULTIPITCH CLIMBS.

1. Type in 도선사광장주차장 (Doseonsa Temple Plaza Parking Lot) on naver/kakao maps. However, this lot is usually filled before sunrise and should only be driven to if you're trying an alpine start. Alternatively, you can park at a public parking lot by exit 1 of Ui Station (우이역). It is fairly pricey at 2,500 won an hour (half price if you have a compact car).

2. Subway. type in Bukhansan Ui Station or 우이역 in your naver/kakao maps. Get off at exit 2 and start heading west towards Doseongsa Temple (도선사). You will see an Ediya Coffee with some people lined up and waiting for some taxis to take them up to the upper lot/trailhead. Inflation is a bitch and the taxi drivers may have changed this but it has always been 2000 won IN CASH per head going up and you will always go up in groups of 4. When coming down from the trailhead/parking lot, wait but the big metal barriers in front of the coffee shops in front for taxis to take you down. It is always 1000 won IN CASH per head coming down. This probably goes without saying but for the love of god please smile, be polite, and be nice to the ajummas and ajusshis that you are riding with. If you are uncomfortable with this or have a big party you can always call a kakao taxi.
