Eagles, falcons, hawks, and migratory birds build nests in shallow depressions on ledges, cliffs and rock walls, often returning to the same site year after year. The Forest Service and Northern AZ Climbers Coalition request that climbers avoid certain routes during critical nesting periods (typically April through early August).
The following routes are closed during this time period due to nesting peregrine falcons: Fruitbowl, Total Recall, and No Joke.
Additionally, routes at Bedrock Cliff are closed due to a nesting owl.
Successful partnership with the Forest Service biologists has allowed for closure of select routes, instead of the entire are, and we ask that climbers adhere to these closures. If you have questions, concerns, or would like to report a bird sighting, please reach out to the Northern Arizona Climbers Coalition at nazcc@nazcc.org.
Thank you!

Description
Past the Oven toward the right side of the Pit is the Son Tower, a semi-detached formation with a good concentration of moderate routes. All of the climbs here are 5.10 or under. The rock is fairly solid, but broken up by many ledges. Shaded on hot days.
Getting There
Walk along the main trail past the Oven until you reach an obvious tower with bolted routes. R.E.M. is the first route on the left.
