Very sad to see orange spraypaint arrows every 10 ft. along the trail and over to Small Fry and Unnamed 5.7, along with a terrible new (and definitely useless) plywood bridge. Use cairns and existing trails, people! Or a simple map posted is all that is needed. This is terrible ethics and is a great way to get an already rough looking area (illegal fire rings, camping, paintball and Airsoft) closed by the Forest Service... Jul 31, 2009

Annoying indeed. However, the perpetrators almost certainly weren't "climbers" ("climbers" use a drill).

Tank Canyon is used more often by groups other than climbers, as evidenced by the paintball marks, spilled Airsoft pellets, etc. A couple of weeks ago, I encountered a guy setting up a makeshift pulley system up the steep, loose stuff across from Membrane. He said he was hauling up folding chairs. I didn't ask him why. This was a day or two after we first encountered the paint...

Anyway, kick out the paint in the trail, turn over the rocks; the paint will wear away eventually. Jul 31, 2009
I contest "climbers" use trad gear! :) Jul 31, 2009

Be cautious on Bug's Bananas. I climbed it yesterday and all of the anchors on the way up seemed fine, but the 2 top anchors are a bit sketchy. The left bolt/nut seemed tight, but the anchor can be spun around on the bolt. The right nut was loose enough that I could tighten it back up with my fingers! I'm going to try and torque them down soon. Apr 21, 2016

Does anyone have any information of the routes on the right just before Cougar Narrows? The ones in interest both start up a slabby face, then lead into this yellow limestone with a couple options to finish, each containing a second pitch continuing up that yellow rock. Did the first pitch and it was really fun, but curious about the second pitch on both options. Jan 31, 2018
