Description

The best concentration of routes in the canyon lies on the dolomite cliffs above the Post Creek trailhead. There are six recorded climbs, although only four will be visible from the parking area. From the parking area, a stiff uphill hike of about 30 minutes leads to these climbs. The hike starts out mellow enough, following incipient trails to the first large bench, the final hill below the climbs is steep and involves some bushwhacking depending upon the line taken.

Getting There

This is the lowest area in Shell for ice climbing. There is a small trailhead on the right (if coming up from Shell) marked by a Forest Service sign. Park here.

Finally got back up to these climbs two weeks ago (mid-Dec. 09) and they were in the best shape I'd seen them! The combination of the Three Sisters provides an excellent introductory day on ice; you can work right to left to gradually increase the difficulty. Dec 25, 2009
