1. Butt Wall

Colorado > Independence Pass > Monitor Rock

Description

This is part of a reorganization. This wall is located on the southwest side of Monitor Rock. There are several good routes in the moderate range in this area. The rock seems to be a bit more polished than the other faces of Monitor Rock probably because there is a lot of run off after rain.

Routes listed from left to right:

A. Left Cheek, 9, 1p, 80', bolts.
B. Going Greek, 9, 1p, 100', bolts.
C. Butt Crack, 8, 1p, 100', gear.
D. Little Flatulence, 8, 1p, bolts.
E. Broomhillda, 10+, 1p, bolts.
F. Matilda, 10.

G. The Nose, 6, 5p, 700', gear.

Around the corner from these routes are the Rainbow Route, 5.4, and The Nose, 5.6 (depending on which line you choose).

Getting There

Park in the lot that accesses the west face of Monitor Rock. Once you cross the road head about 100 yards uphill and look for a faint trail heading off to the right. Walk on this trail for 5-10 min through a switchback or two and you will reach the base of this wall. If you are looking to climb the nose or rainbow route walk about 20 yards past all the sport routes.
