Junior Olympic Wall

Colorado > Independence Pass > Outrageous Overhangs…

Description

This is a south-facing cliff on the way to the Opening Ceremonies Wall and the Olympic Wall. When you are headed up to Olympic Wall, you pass right by this wall. It offers a good place to warm up for the harder routes up top, or a decent place for beginners to either TR or sport climb some easier routes.

Getting There

Park at the Grotto Wall parking area. Walk up the road, (heading towards Twin Lakes not Aspen), for about 300 yards. Be very careful while doing this, because the road is very tight, and there is really no good place to walk while cars come screaming down the pass. After the 300 yards, look on the north, (left), side of the road for a cairn and a good climber's trail. Follow the cairns because they are the path of least resistance. After heading up the final steep slope, the trail eases a little, and you are there.

Per D Scott Clark: 1. Outrageous Overhang Wall, 100 feet up from the road, continue following cairns to the left to get to the other areas.

2. Climb the scree/steep path till you come to a faint fork. Go right/straight up for Thindependence and V2.

3. Go left, and then follow the steep trail to Junior Olympic Wall.

4. Continue left past Junior Olympic Wall, and arrive in the middle of Opening Ceremony Wall.

5. Olympic Wall and Bedrock are to the right from Opening Ceremony Wall.

[Hide Comment] Directions for this place are terrible. Here's my attempt at something that makes sense.

1. Outrageous Overhang Wall, 100ft up from the road, continue following cairns to the left to get to the other areas.

2. Climb the scree/steep path till you come to a faint fork. Go right/straight up for Thindependence and V2.

3. Go left and then follow the steep trail to Junior Olympic Wall.

4. Continue left past Jr O wall and arrive in the middle of Opening Ceremony Wall.

5. Olympic Wall and Bedrock are to the right from OC Wall. Jun 12, 2017

[Hide Comment] Per recent visit: 2 large cairns mark trail start: past the sharp bend up from the parking lot; left past the 1st crag you come to. Then a bit of clearly marked scrambling up easy scree to Junior Olympic Wall.
