Description [Edit]

A large broken pillar with a couple of face routes and a crack. Two routes face north, one is on the pillars east face. Bolts and gear. Slings to rig anchor at top. Typical Dells rock.

Getting There [Edit]

From the north boat ramp on Watson Lake, hike north on the Northshore Trail some distance until it reaches a series of brief switchbacks with a viewpoint bench. The trail then contours left into a drainage and tends northwest over rock with white dots for trail markers. The North Pole can be seen from here as the obvious pillar with an oak growing out the top. Scramble up to the formation.

You can also easily reach the North Pole from the Time Zone Wall. Scramble up left of the Time Zone wall to the top of the ridge. Hike over and down trending left (west) on the north side of the ridge. Alternately, one can hike through the high notch at the east end of the Time Zone formation and tend left (west) over slabs to the pillar.

The route up the crack probably goes at 5.7/8. The hardest move is about 4ft. off the deck. Also, I find it easier to access this area as approaching the "Below The Dam" area by starting at the Granite Dells Rd. trailhead parking (FREE). The sport route on the West side of the formation probably goes at 5.10/b. All routes can be TR'd from top with the tree. Dec 18, 2014

I found the easiest way to approach is to follow the white dot trail past Time Zone. When you reach the bench, the trail goes uphill and skirts around into the next canyon. North Pole is clearly visible and a casual scramble up easy rock. Dec 4, 2017
