Sun in Morning. Shade after 5PM in summer. The rock in this area has a nice texture to it. It's not like the slick BCC rock your use to.

Getting There

Drive 6.1-6.2 miles up the canyon from the flashing sign and park on the South side of the road. Hike up the north side into the trees. Follow the trail. You will pass by the Burnt Wall on your Right side. Keep following the trail for about another 150 yards. The wall is on the right.

Bring your ice axe and crampons to get to this place (or at least some trekking poles). Kinda steep and loose. Went up the wrong trail before the picture was posted but there's a little tree stump and some crazy roots to look for. We also left some decent walking sticks at the bottom to help us get down. Follow the trail and the broken branches as guides. Everything is up on the right. Jul 10, 2007

Climbed all the routes here a few days ago and just wanted to say a few things. First, the approach is not bad and worth the short steep hike. Just stay on the trail to the right. If you're by the old stone building you need to head further east. Second, I found a wrist watch with a males wedding band attached to it at the bottom of the crag. Please make yourself known if it belongs to you. Jul 18, 2010

The approach is a real mess, hopefully this crag will see a little love some day and get some proper switchbacks cut in (although crags like mule hollow are probably more in need). If anyone wants to get dirty, I'll bring the loppers.

That said, the developers had a good eye - thanks for your hard work! I was skeptical at first, but after one route I fell in love. I wish there were more of it. Aug 8, 2010

I've called this place the steeps ever since the first time I went there! Fun short routes though! Well worth the hike! Jun 14, 2011

This is a pretty neat little area. The walk isn't nearly as bad as people are saying. The trail is actually pretty good. The routes are pretty short, but 'battalion of saints' is great, and 'beef master' is alright. Also, there's a really good hard climb in the dihedral left of 'battalion'. It's not listed on here, maybe it's new. Anyway, I'd say it's maybe .12b. Has anyone else on here done this line. I really liked it. Jul 19, 2012

Put a watch on it. 6 minutes car to base. One of us was in flip flops. Jun 20, 2013

Excellent rock quality here and well bolted. Wish the climbing was a little more sustained. Also, grades seemed a little soft. Approach not bad....only long time Salt Lake-ians may think otherwise.... :-) .... trail improvement could be nice, though. Jun 24, 2013
A newly installed (in June 2013) cell tower now marks the parking area, which also has a short spur road leading down to the creek -- once the odometer hits 6.1, look for it; hard to go wrong. Straightforward, easy approach -- ignore comments to the contrary. Battalion has some of the best rock in BCC. Anyone have some history about the nearby "castle" that overlooks the road? Jul 11, 2013

Johns directions are perfect. There are 2 large sets of cairns marking the trail head. Not a bad trail AT ALL. I did it in flip flops Sep 7, 2013

You can purchase an informal wad of papers from IME with these routes and other nearby bolted lines on it. It's very helpful and, more organized than the MP page, and my understanding is that it may help the bolting funds of the FA assent parties. The area is wonderful and the approach is a little loose, but not so much that anyone should be deterred. Jun 28, 2014
