Lost Bandana Wall

Arizona > Central Arizona > *Phoenix Areas > Little Granite… > Lost Bandana Area

Description

Lost Bandana Wall is probably the most popular spot at Little Granite Mountain for climbing (of course this is all relative). Easily accessible and with a number of routes, it is a favorite for groups to come and spend the day. The southern exposure makes it a good winter spot, but conversely turns it into an oven in early fall and late spring.

You can scramble to the top of the wall (or off the wall) via it's right (east) end with a short bit of 4th class climbing.

Getting There

Lost Bandana Wall is accessed from the large Granite Mountain Trailhead, just off of 136th Street about 2 miles south of E Rio Verde Drive. From the lot, take the Powerline Trail straight west 0.6 mile to the Granite Mountain Trail. Turn right (north) and follow that trail 0.3 mile to the Granite Mountain Loop Trail. Turn left (west) and take that trail as it winds west and north around a hill. As you get around the hill, you will see Lost Bandana Wall up a short valley to the north/northeast. Total approach is around 1.4 miles with 364 feet of elevation gain.

[Hide Comment] Currently there are a couple problems with the hangers on this particular crag. Multiple of the hangers on the wall, including one of the anchors at the end of the route are leeper hangers which are inherently dangerous (see bit.ly/20WBkul). In addition, two hangers, one of which is a leeper hanger, towards the center of the wall are spinners that stick nearly a quarter inch of the way out of the rock on their bolts. Be aware of these problems, and set back up anchors. Feb 15, 2016
