Description

This is a nice wall on the east face of Monitor Rock that receives morning sun and is shaded in the afternoon. There are several, pretty decent, sport routes here, and it is a nice alternative to the often crowded west face of Monitor Rock.

Getting There

Take CO Hwy 82 out of either Aspen or Twin Lakes. Park in a pullout that is just on the east side of Monitor Rock. If you are coming from Aspen, it is on the left (right after Monitor Rock, and from Twin Lakes, it is on the right just before Monitor Rock. The trail is in the west corner of the pullout, and I have attached some pictures of where you enter. Follow the trail for a few hundred yards over a bridge and you will come to a Y. Take a right, and you will pass some cabin remains. Just past the remains head uphill for another few hundred yards and you will see the wall on your left. The approach takes about 10 minutes.

Per Drew Allan: Clairbell Mine Wall is part of Monitor Rock (east side of formation).

There are now some newer sport routes left (south) of the mine. The two we found were about a 5.7 and a 5.10b/c. About 50 or 60 feet long on some semi-polished rock with bolting spacey enough to keep it interesting. Jul 8, 2014

Not a problem at all, I really enjoy contributing. As for my last comment Lincoln Creek does exist so I'm hoping Powerline does not belong under there since I submitted that area as well. Aug 23, 2007

FWIW, David, you need not apologize. Thanks for your contributions! This whole shebang is a very organic process. Monitor Rock and its routes under it predated your addition by years. You couldn't have put it under Monitor Rock even if you wanted given the structure. Nonetheless, reorganization is part of the whole deal...in time. We could reorganize. Maybe it is time. To whom it may concern: The reason that I added this as an area is because there are a lot of walls on Monitor Rock and everything just seems to be lumped into "Monitor Rock". For example, I believe that the route "Twin Flakes" belongs on the "Ironside Wall" section of Monitor Rock yet everything on Monitor Rock has been placed into one section. Space Your Face Wall, Endless Wall, etc are not accounted for. I was hoping that someday there would be a reorg of Independence Pass and then "Claribell Mine" would be under Moinitor Rock. Just like the Powerline area belongs under Lincoln Creek, but this does not exist. Sorry if I have caused anyone confusion by placing this wall as an area of its own I did try and think about it before hand. Aug 23, 2007

Drew, thanks for the suggestion; however, due to the structure of the database, areas can not be combined at the same level as routes. Under Monitor Rock, there are routes, so we can't move it under Monitor Rock at this time. Apologies. Addendum: reorganization changed all that. Aug 23, 2007
