Description

This part of Sullies is more of a top-rope area and is popular with beginners, but there is plenty to do for climbers of all abilities. Routes are shorter than those found in Lower Sullivan's, but most can be led if you want. Plenty of natural anchors can be made just about anywhere along the rim. DO NOT PLACE BOLTS IN THIS CANYON.

Getting There

Located off Old Highway 89 about 5 miles north of Chino Valley or 1/2 mile south of Paulden. Take hwy 89 turn onto Old Highway 89 to a point where the road crosses over the Verde river. Park in a lot on the east side of the road south of the river. Hike east along the rim, rap or hike in.

There are at least 50 worthwhile climbs in here...probably many more than that even. It is a great place for top-roping or rope-soloing or trad style leading. I see the routes here as super high quality, tall, boulder-crack problems. I did have what I now think was a barn owl fly out of a pod about half-way up a crack in there a couple years ago. It flew right at my face and I didn't know what I was looking at: its pale white face framed in orange was very cat-like . As I ducked it's tail feathers grazed the top of my head. I was so startled I almost forgot I was climbing. So yeah...bees, owls, Beware!....Oh! and does any body know what happened with its For Sale status as the picture suggests? 1 day ago

Bee Wear! There may be a hive on the south aspect (that is to say, the north side of the canyon) near Cyclops Eye. Nov 8, 2014
