Description

It is surprising to find a place with such high quality ice climbing in Midwest. The two main ice pillars, when in, would be considered great in Ourey's Ice Park.

The ice falls are formed by excess water draining from the heating system in a private property atop the cliff. With the owners permission, climbers added fixed pipes, which in a very good season, help in forming of three awesome ~150 ft icefalls/pillars. Additional mixed and drytooling routes also exist.

Getting There

From St. Paul, get on MN-36 E towards Stillwater. In downtown Stillwater turn right into E Chestnut St/MN-36, crossing into Wisconsin over the bridge across St Croix River. Continue on WI-64 E for about 2 miles and turn left onto Anderson Scout Camp Rd. At the boulder turn left into Twin Springs Rd. Follow it to the end. When parking ensure the gate or the driveways are not blocked. Maintain low profile and be respectful to local residents.

From the gate, drop down to St. Croix River, turn right and continue along the cliff (the river has to be frozen) until you see the ice falls on the right. Ascent grade 2 slope to the base of the cliff.

No ice!!!! I went out this weekend and there was NOTHING there. I wonder if they stopped letting people climb there? Does anyone have any information on this?

Also, does anyone have any info on the rock routes on the same cliff AND across the river in MN? They look chossy and old, but i am curious. I see upwards of 50 to 100 bolted lines.

Thanks for the help. Jan 17, 2011

I overheard this year the pipes froze an broke up. Jan 30, 2011
Went to scout this one out yesterday to see whether it is coming in and saw very little save for thin ice on either side of where the main pillars seem to form when they are in. Does anyone if this is going to be flowing this year as I did not see any water dropping either... Dec 29, 2011
Anybody know if this is in this year? Jan 10, 2015
