Description
There is a printable map (2018) with routes for Logtown. It can be found on the Ohio Climber's Coalition website's Logtown information page or you can access it directly here: Logtown Quarry Climbing Map. There are several new routes to check out, including a few new bolted lines at the Middle Cliffs.
Current information about projects, improvements and other climber activity at Logtown and other NE Ohio climbing areas can be found on the Northern Ohio Climbers group page on Facebook.
The closest restrooms are located in the small park across the river, a short driving distance from the parking lot.
History: There is good information online if your willing to search for it. Also, there is a 1986 (out of print) guide, "A Climber's Guide to the Cliffs of Logtown, Ohio" by Sean Cobourn and Todd McCormick that records the earlier climbing history of Logtown. One of the original guides can be found at the Lisbon Historical Society on Washington Street, between Market and Jefferson.
Logtown: Lisbon, Ohio
As of March 2025, The Big Cliffs are no longer on private property. They are now owned by the Columbiana County Park District. The new park is called Logtown Stone Quarry County Park, and the Park District supports climbing here. The Big Cliffs have a few trad routes and several bolted routes. Most bolts are new since 2018; as always use your own judgement when considering a route. Most of the bolted lines climb between drill marks from the old sandstone quarry. Rock is a fine-grain sandstone of very good quality, but it deteriorates near the top of the cliff. Climbing is good on the massive lower main section of the cliff, with only a few horizontal bedding planes forming ledges.
Climbers at Logtown have the support of the Village of Lisbon, which includes the Middle Cliffs and the trail to the Big Cliffs. Formerly unbolted, the Middle Cliffs now offer a handful of bolted routes and few trad lines.
Most of the anchors at Logtown have permanent steel carabiners attached; please attach your own gear to the anchors for Top Roping. The last climber to climb the route can then either lower off (recommended) or rappel off the permanent steel carabiners and clean the route. These anchors are costly and take time to replace, please do not Top Rope directly off the permanent anchors.
Top roping can be challenging here (and is not recommended). Dirt can be knocked down onto routes below and it increases erosion. It is not recommended to set up top anchors due to the loose rocks at the top of the Big Cliffs and the steep terrain at the top of the Middle Cliffs.
Please do not top rope or rappel above the Right Wall area at the Big Cliffs. The top of the Right Wall has been fenced off to introduce vegetation which greatly reduces the amount of dirt and mud that runs down the wall in this area.
Please do not camp or build fires at the Middle Cliffs or the Big Cliffs!
Lisbon
Lisbon offers several fine restaurants including: Mary's Pizza Shop, Scratch , and The Courthouse Inn & Restaurant (Vegetarian) .
Numbers Brewing Company serves craft beers of all kinds.
A two minute walk up the trail from the Middle Cliffs takes you to a park with a swimming pool(fee) and restrooms.
The Village is working on funding for a footbridge to cross the river, close to the Climber's parking lot, that will lead to a small park with restrooms.
